Overview
Hakodate Port Festival marks the 167th anniversary of the port's opening in 2026, running August 1-5. The festival's signature event, the Wasshoi Hakodate parade dance, takes place on August 2 and 3, each from 16:30 to 21:30 (planned), with thousands of participants in colorful happi coats dancing through two different courses in central Hakodate. A separate fireworks display, the 71st Doshin Fireworks, is held over the harbor on the evening of August 1 (19:45-20:50). August 4-5 are held as rain-contingency backup dates for the parade and fireworks respectively.
