Overview
Sapporo Autumn Fest is a food festival held in central Sapporo every September, celebrating the autumn harvest of Hokkaido. The festival takes place along Odori Park, the long green corridor that runs through downtown Sapporo, and brings together producers, chefs, and restaurants from across the prefecture. Visitors can taste regional specialties from different parts of Hokkaido in one place, including seafood, grilled meats, soup curry, dairy products, sweets, sake, wine, and craft beer. The festival runs for several weeks and stays open into the evening, making it easy to combine with sightseeing in central Sapporo or a relaxed dinner outdoors. Sapporo Autumn Fest began in 2008 and has grown into one of Hokkaido's largest autumn events, attracting visitors from across Japan and overseas.
Highlights
The festival is spread across several blocks of Odori Park, with each block focused on a different theme such as a Hokkaido market, a meat-and-grill area, a bar zone, and a curated chef's table. This block-by-block format lets visitors walk through the festival as a single long food street, sampling small portions from many regions of Hokkaido in one visit. Local sake, wine, and craft beer are served alongside the food, and many stalls stay open until the evening, so the festival also works well as a casual outdoor dinner. The venue is directly connected to Odori Station on the Sapporo Subway, and the festival area is within walking distance of most central Sapporo hotels, making it easy to drop in for an hour or to stay for a full evening. Admission is free, and visitors pay only for what they order at each stall.
